this country is in a fix
seen far too many temples.
seen far too many monkeys.
seen far too many touts, drug-dealers, fruit-sellers, flute-sellers, and sellers-of-practically-anything-else-it-is-possible-to-sell.
hopefully going rafting tomorrow but it’s only a grade 2.5 river (Trisuli) because we can’t go on the other one because there’s huge strikes going on with the taxis and busses cos the government wants to remove or tax or something all vehicles over 20 years old and so everyone with a vehicle over 20 years old (which is practically
everyone with a vehicle by the look of them) is up in arms and striking and of course anybody who doesn’t strike gets their car smashed up and also because it’s the fifth anniversary of the Maoist rebel groups and everyone’s terrified of getting blown up by them too for no reason which all means that we can’t go on the river we were
going to go on which was grade 4 but hey, I’m sure it’ll be just dandy anyway.
Went to Patan today which wasn’t all that amazing really but maybe we’re just getting a little jaded.
Met some more people (from London) at the Kathmandu guest house which seems to be the starting place for everything here. One of them came with us to Patan today…
…which was nice.
otherwise BenP’s been constantly hung over for the past two days and thought it best to stay in the hotel today and give the toilet a taste of that macaroni cheese he mainly didn’t eat for breakfast this morning. But I’m sure he’ll be fine.
I (being the responsible one) am proposing a curfew of 10pm this evening considering we have to leave at 6.30am tomorrow to go on the afore mentioned river promenade and Ben and Andrew are both agreeing
with me. In principle. We shall see.
must be going,
T.
