I know many of you don’t bother reading these round emails sent to everybody who was foolish enough to give me their email address (well actually I don’t know but I know that I don’t read them sometimes
and I count as at least two people so that’s good enough) so I decided to do a bullet-point summary of the text for those of you with little or no time to spare.
* If you really have little or no time to spare, stop here. It really isn’t very interesting.
* No honestly, don’t bother.
* Well if you’ve got this far you obviously have too much time and I suppose this is as good a way as any to spend it however you might like to go and save someone’s life first by visiting http://www.thehungersite.com but then again you might not. It all depends where your priorities lie.
* So, about these bullet-points:

* Introduction
* Time-saving clauses
* Moral
* Bullet points
* Other stuff I haven’t written yet
* This really isn’t working is it?
* Maybe if I write the email first then summarise it
* Yeah that would be better
* Right then
* Here we go
* HHRRHHMM

In the beginning there were three emails. The first one recounted how I arrived in Kathmandu. The second recounted how I arrived in Pokhara. The third rambled on and on, seemingly for ever, about absolutely nothing which could possibly be of interest to anyone at all. Then, all-of-a-sudden, it became interesting….

…ha ha! fooled you. You didn’t really believe I was going to actually tell you something about my travels?

I can’t remember what I said in the last two emails so you’ll have to excuse me if I repeat myself. (If you’ve got this far you really can’t be too picky about your reading matter so it probably won’t be a problem to you.)

Went on a short trek with Mark and Vishnu sometime last week which was cool. The first day we got a Taxi to Khare and then half-way there Mark realised the soles of his trekking boots had fallen off so we had to go back and he rented some but by that time it was too late to start that day so we went the next. Then we walked for a bit to almost the top of Panchase where we stayed the night and ate real Dhal Baht at Didi’s Inn which is run by three sisters who were all very nice. There was also a huge (16) party of Taiwanese people with cameras who had everything (food, cookers, tents, chairs, beds, toilets (I’m not joking)) carried by porters.

Then the next day we walked to Pumdi and Bumdi where we had noodle soup with “less chilli” which even Mark couldn’t eat.

Then instead of finding somewhere to sleep (it was only about 1 or 2pm) we decided to go a bit further. Then a bit further. And just a little bit further. And ended up walking down 10 million steps in the dark (with my trusty Mag Light) back into Pokhara.

The day after Mark was really aching and I wasn’t too good either so we didn’t do anything. Then the day after that Mark was better but I thought I was aching more than the day before. We rented a motorbike and then I realised that I really was aching more, and felt really weak, and was cold even wearing all my clothes and sitting in the
sun. so we went back and I lay on my bed for the day. The day after I was fine again so we went up to Vishnu’s family’s house on the bike, spent the night there (more real dhal baht) and started walking back (Vishnu took the bike) when Mark realised he was ill and so we took it slowly and after 10 million more steps, made it back to
our guest house in time to go and have dinner with Mark’s ex-landlords (deepok’s parents) (more real dhal baht) and watch all but the beginning of this film which is a piss-take on all the godfather type films and which I found hilarious and which had loads of actors who I recognised but couldn’t place. And of course I have no idea what it was called cos I didn’t see the beginning.

Any ideas?

Well that’ll be all for now cos I’m off to lunch at the Monsoon Garden Restaurant to make up for the truly terrible breakfast we had this morning.

bye all

T.

PS no this hasn’t cost me a fortune cos I’m doing it at HOTEL NIRVANA who have kindly loaned my the use of their PC in exchange for me pointing out that the reference encyclopaedia CD-Rom which they’d been trying to load without success for the past year was in fact made for MacOS. It’s always the simple things…
