Tam had his fans too- tho I only noticed females- maybe it was his eyes...

No mention of the spice girls (past it) but quite a lot of people asked us "what about beckham".

Don't worry steve i will use all my feminine wiles to try and lure tam back to Egypt. Coz i think there are lots of really friendly people here and if we visit an oasis it shouldn't be too dry. Since I've got back I realise everyone loves Siwa- which we skipped.

Plus aubergine sandwiches for 10p!!!!

Maybe they were saying you had beautiful eyes? I think despite your hesitence you should return there (or visit another Arabic state with Lid) as your anecdotes amuse me lucky man!

yeah I got "lucky man" lots too. I also got "You have beautiful daughter" which was a little unsettling. And Lydia got lots of "You have beautiful eyes" from people walking behind us who couldn't possibly have seen her eyes...

Those who spoke more English always wanted something from you and would say they had an English wife "You English, my wife is English, yeah?, she live at Manchester Airport, so you buy something at my shop, yeah?" Erm, no! My friend Laura got whistled at constantly (she did insist on wearing a bikini top)and i was told i was a lucky man!

Oh, sorry - yes the train journey was fine. Very spacious and the train was not full at all - I got three seats to myself and was able to sleep lying down! On our last day we went to Qanater, 16km down river from Cairo, which seems to be where young Egyptian couples go for fun... it was very... interesting!
