back in cairo
27th December 2004
We’re now back in cairo for the night on our way from Alexandria to Sinai. For those who don’t know (I didn’t) Sinai is the part of Egypt the other side of the Suez canal and mount Sinai is the place where Moses supposedly received the ten commandments from god which makes it a special place for all three of the world’s main monotheistic religions. It’s also meant to be very beautiful…
Today we’ve seen a mosque and we’re on our way to (hopefully) see Sufi dancing in the citadel.

Merry christmas y’all!
Am now in Alexandria (’alex’ to you and me) which I find remarkably like Ajaccio. There are, of course, many arabic looking people around but then there are in Ajaccio too; the sea front is quite similar - it’s the same sea after all; there are palm trees; there are cars triple parked everywhere; even the road and pavements are covered in a similar colour dirt…

first taste of cairo
21st December 2004
The trip was uneventful and Lydia met me at the airport. Today we just walked around cairo so I could get used to it. It’s much like I expected - busy, noisy and polluted - but I’m pleasantly surprised at how little hassle we get. Apart from all the shop keepers who call at you and say “Welcome to egypt!” (Lydia doesn’t reply “actually, I’ve been here 4 months…”) most people leave us alone. And when taxi drivers call out “TAXI!” and you say no, they move on. Lydia stopped a couple of women to ask the way somewhere and they were so impressed with her arabic that they tried to give us some of the barbecued sweet corn they had just bought!
Also there are very few beggars and according to the lp there isn’t much theft or pickpocketery.
Tomorrow we’ll be visiting the Citadel and some other palace type thing before heading back to the mosque we were at today to get some nice dusk shots.

Re: shaving
10th July 2001
following the afore mentioned incidents I decided to purchase my own cut-throat razor and after trying to explain that I didn’t want a safety razor I wanted the type you can kill someone with, I got a shiny new stainless steel one with blades.

change of plan
13th April 2001
hi folks, it’s been a while. Hope you’re all keeping out of trouble, ho ho ho! There’s been a minor change of plan, one which will cause this particular mailing list, operating under this particular name, to become, at least temporarily, obsolete.

this goes out to all my fans who have been writing telling me how much they enjoy the recent minimalist material but that they even preferred my earlier work who’s style was slightly more “colourful” I think was the word one of you (you know who you are) employed. So here goes:
